Sparks Fostering Team
Getrude Nwokeafor
social worker (midlands)
My name is Getrude Nwokeafor, and I am one of the Supervising Social Workers in the team. I’m a qualified Social Worker, beginning my journey in children’s safeguarding before moving into fostering, where I have spent the last few years supporting carers and children as a Supervising Social Worker.
Before qualifying, I worked in children’s residential accommodation, which I believe gave me a good foundation for my social work career. What I enjoyed most in that role was the direct work with children and young people. This is what inspired me to study social work.
I have also worked across both children’s and adults’ services, particularly with adults with learning disabilities. These experiences deepened my understanding of vulnerability, independence, and the importance of seeing the whole person, not just their needs. My view is that honesty, empathy, and trusting relationships are at the heart of meaningful support.
Fostering can be incredibly rewarding but also challenging, and I believe carers deserve to feel supported, heard, and valued. As a Supervising Social Worker, I take pride in being approachable, reliable, and reflective. My aim is to offer both practical guidance and emotional support so that carers feel confident and never alone in their role. Seeing children feel safe, settle, and begin to thrive in a nurturing home is what motivates me every day.
I was born in Nigeria, and my cultural background has given me an appreciation for diversity, family, and community. These values influence how I connect with people from all walks of life.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, reading, and watching thriller movies. I am married with three children.
I feel genuinely privileged to work alongside foster carers and colleagues who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children and young people.
