Ahmed is a retired engineer having worked for 40 years with the same international engineering company. During his time, he worked in various countries, including working abroad for 9 years and supported various projects including supporting the apprentice recruitment process and mentoring some apprentices. Additionally, he supported local high schools with ‘mock interviews’, something he continues to support every year.
In 2011, as a family, they decided to start their fostering journey. They have supported children/young adults from various backgrounds and religions. Ahmed has supported a number of foster carers who were looking after Muslim children and has presented to foster carers and social workers the topic of ‘Foster Carers advice for looking after Muslim children’.

Working with Tay, Ahmed has supported various recruitment events for the local authority to support the Muslim community for fostering and adoption.
Ahmed’s experience has helped him to lead various specific training events, including Skill to Foster.
To support his planned retirement, Ahmed started to support an adoption panel in 2019, he is now Chair of Sparks Fostering Panel. On average, supporting 3 panels a month.
Due to his experience, his supervising social worker recommended him to support the LA for interviewing social workers which he does every few months.
In his spare time and when he was working for the engineering company, he undertook the National Three Peaks with his colleagues and the Manchester to Blackpool cycle ride and raised funds for various charities. Now he is retired, his main focus is his garden, having moved house after retiring to a quieter area and a house with a stream. A never-ending project that is being transformed to an adventure play area for their grandkids and also the children they foster. Another major task he has undertaken is supporting the local Mosque with their reconstruction project.
Part of his ‘mid life crisis’, Ahmed and his oldest son became the custodians of a 1966 V8 Ford Mustang classic.
As a family, they continue to foster and will do so for the foreseeable future. Ahmed’s focus is improving his skills and knowledge on fostering and adoption and supporting both communities with training and panel support.
