PROJECT CLOSED DUE TO LACK OF ENGAGEMENT
Sparks Fostering contacted a large number of mosques and Muslim organisations (see the list below) throughout 2024 with the aim of coordinating a national campaign to recruit Muslim foster carers. Whilst many organisations initially expressed support and enthusiasm for the work, NONE of them committed to doing a short announcement and putting up posters every 3 months.
In order to motivate mosques and organisations, Sparks Fostering commissioned a Muslim who grew up in foster care to take over the work in early 2024; however, this did not make a difference.
The explanations provided included: they don’t work with private organisations (offers to do the work through a not for profit organisation weren’t successful); some members of the leadership board weren’t sure about the Islamic position on fostering (online workshops were arranged to provide education); a few said they’re involved in a lot of other projects so can’t commit to the this one; some already do occassional fostering recruitment work so don’t feel the need to join a national campaign; some were hesitant to work on a project led by a female; others were uncomfortable with the lead being non-hijabi.
To conclude the project, all of the organisations listed below were emailed and invited to make any amendments to the information provided about them.

| Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB) | London | They have been considering adoption/fostering work for a while now. Attempts to contact via other members have failed. |
| The British Board of Scholars and Imams | London | BBSI have worked with over 50 scholars (of different sects), doing extensive research on adoption and fostering, which concluded that adoption and fostering are communal obligations. We are in discussion now about whether they could write and endorse a khutba for the mosques to use. They signposted me to a khutba done by someone else. No further assistance available. |
