Muslim Children in Care

Muslim Mentors for Children in Care is an initiative sponsored by MCiC (Muslim Children in Care) that aims to inspire, empower and support Muslim children and young people with care experience by connecting them with positive Muslim role models from a wide range of professions.

Many children in care have limited opportunities to meet professionals who share aspects of their cultural, religious or lived experiences. This project seeks to address that gap by providing access to inspiring mentors who can broaden aspirations, build confidence and help young people make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways.

The programme delivers interactive online group mentoring sessions featuring professionals from a variety of sectors, including healthcare, engineering, law, finance, technology, education, business and the public sector. During each session, mentors share their personal and professional journeys, discuss the qualifications and skills required for their profession, provide an insight into day-to-day working life, and answer questions from participants in a supportive and engaging environment.

The project is designed exclusively for children and young people currently in care or with care experience. Expressions of Interest are submitted by the young person’s supervising social worker, who remains the primary point of contact throughout the registration process.

By connecting young people with successful Muslim professionals, the programme aims to:

• Raise aspirations and broaden career awareness.
• Increase confidence, motivation and self-belief.
• Promote positive identity, belonging and representation.
• Introduce a diverse range of education and employment pathways.
• Create opportunities for meaningful engagement with trusted role models.
• Support local authorities in meeting the cultural, religious and identity needs of Muslim children in their care.

The Muslim Mentors for Children in Care project reflects MCiC’s commitment to delivering practical, identity-sensitive support that helps Muslim children and young people in care thrive, realise their potential and confidently pursue their future ambitions.
